The aim of experimental statistics is to seek new ways of producing statistics that would allow users quick and convenient access to relevant and necessary information.

To produce experimental statistics we use:

  • data linking and combining;
  • new data sources (e.g. electricity consumption data of Elering, data of mobile network operators);
  • new methods (e.g. web scraping, machine learning);
  • modern visualisation solutions (e.g. R Shiny and Flourish).

The output of experimental statistics may diverge from the traditional requirements of official statistics such as harmonisation, coverage

Short-term labour market statistics

Statistics Estonia publishes short-term labour market statistics since November 2022. Interactive charts give an overview of the labour market in Estonia based on the data of the employment register. They show changes in the number of employment relationships: how many were started, suspended or terminated. There is also a time series of the changes in these indicators. The number of employment relationships is based on entries in the employment register, meaning that people with several jobs are represented several times in the dataset. The gender pay gap increased slightly in 2013

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2013, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 24.8% lower than the gross hourly earnings of male employees, and the gender pay gap grew by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.
