How great is inequality in Estonia and how is it divided? As part of the analysis, 11 person profiles were created to depict social gaps and inequality in Estonia. The profiles included a person’s household type, number of children in the household, as well as age, sex, education, ethnic nationality, place of residence, disability and its degree, income, employment, benefits received, distance between place of residence and place of work, health status and satisfaction with life.

In Estonia, the general government sector is divided into three: central government comprising state budget units and extra-budgetary funds, foundations and legal entities governed by public law; local governments, i.e. city and rural municipality administrations with their subsidiary units; social security funds: Estonian Health Insurance Fund and Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund. Statistics Estonia published data on Ukrainian citizens in the labour market

Growth in wages and salaries stalled across Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2020, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,433 euros, which is 1% higher than last year. While in county comparison, both increase and decrease in wages could be observed, the year-on-year growth has not been as modest in ten years.

General government deficit decreased significantly, the debt level is stable

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the Estonian general government deficit was 2.4% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 721 million euros.
