In July, turnover of retail trade enterprises grew by 10%
According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2021, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 779 million euros. Compared to July 2020, turnover increased by 10% at constant prices.
Jaanika Tiigiste, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that in July, year on year, turnover increased by 14% in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel, by 12% in stores selling manufactured goods and by 7% in grocery stores. “Turnover continues to grow both in comparison with last year and with the pre-pandemic level of 2019,” said Tiigiste.
The turnover of stores selling manufactured goods grew in all economic activities. The biggest increase at 29% was recorded in stores selling via mail order or the internet, followed by 15% increase in the turnover of stores selling second-hand goods and non-store retail sale (stalls, markets, direct sale), and 13% increase in stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials.
In July compared to June, the turnover of retail trade enterprises decreased by 1%. It decreased also by 1% according to the seasonally and working-day adjusted data.
In the first seven months of 2021, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The statistics are based on the VAT declaration data of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board. Statistics Estonia performs the statistical activity “Financial statistics of trade enterprises (monthly)” for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications in order to determine how the Estonian economy is doing.
