In November, price changes related to housing had the biggest impact on the consumer price index
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2021, the consumer price index rose by 1.8% compared to October 2021 and by 8.8% compared to November 2020. Goods were 7.6% and services 11.2% more expensive than in November last year.
Viktoria Trasanov, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared to November 2020, the consumer price index was affected the most by housing-related price changes, which contributed more than a third of the total rise in the index. “The electricity that reached homes was 48.5% and pipeline gas 147.5% more expensive. The impact of transport-related price changes on the index change was slightly over 30%. Petrol was 28.3% and diesel fuel 40% more expensive, while vehicle prices rose by 15.3%,” said Trasanov.
The 5.4% price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages also had a bigger impact on the consumer price index. The biggest increase compared to November 2020 was recorded in the prices of potatoes (102.8%), fresh fish (24.6%) and fresh vegetables (18.8%).
The last time that the year-on-year change of the consumer price index was 8.8% or higher was in October 2008 when it was 9.8%.
Compared to October, the biggest impact on the consumer price index came from housing-related price changes, which accounted for over 40% of the total rise of the index. In a month, pipeline gas became 62.5% and the electricity that reached homes 7.4% more expensive. The price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed a quarter of the total index rise.
