In June, electricity had the biggest impact on the producer price index

In June 2021, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 2.6% compared to May 2021 and by 9.4% compared to June 2020.

Eveli Šokman, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared to May, the index was affected the most by price increases in electricity production and in the manufacture of wood and wood products, metal products and chemicals. “Falling prices in mining and quarrying and in the manufacture of beverages had an opposite effect on the index,” added Šokman.

Compared to June last year, the producer price index was affected the most by increased prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in electricity production and in the manufacture of electronic products. In addition, price decreases in mining and quarrying and in the manufacture of beverages affected the index.

In June, compared to May, the export price index rose by 2.3%. The biggest price increases occurred in electricity production, in the manufacture of petroleum products and in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products. The export price index has been rising for nine consecutive months. Compared to June 2020, the export price index increased by 12.0%

The import price index rose by 2.7% in June compared to May. Prices increased the most in electricity production, in mining and quarrying and in the manufacture of petroleum products. The import price index has been on the rise for seven months in a row. Compared to June 2020, the import price index increased by 12.3%.
