Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. In 2021, Estonian residents made 575,000 outbound overnight trips, which is 3% more than the year before. The number of overnight domestic trips was nearly 2.3 million – this is 6% more than in 2020. Last year, the expenditures on outbound trips amounted to over 495 million euros and the expenditures on domestic trips to more than 402 million euros.

General government deficit decreased significantly, the debt level is stable

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the Estonian general government deficit was 2.4% and the debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 721 million euros.

The annual growth of the Dwelling Price Index was the highest of recent years

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 15.1% compared to the average of 2020.

In February, the producer price index of industrial output rose by 0.8% compared to the previous month

In February 2022, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.8% compared to January 2022 and by 26.3% compared to February 2021.

Estonia’s exports of services greatly exceeded imports of services

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2021, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 79% while imports of services fell by 23% year on year. In 2021 as a whole, exports of services grew by 47% and imports by 28% compared to 2020.

In January, trade grew by more than a third

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2022, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 35% and imports by 36% compared to January 2021. Trade growth was significantly boosted by the increased exports and imports and higher prices of mineral fuels and electricity.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2022, the consumer price index rose by 1.5% compared to January 2022 and by 12.0% compared to February 2021. Goods were 10.7% and services 14.5% more expensive than in February last year.

In 2021, average monthly gross wages and salaries rose by 6.9%

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia were 1,548 euros, which is 6.9% more than in 2020. Wage growth recovered following a slowdown in 2020 and reached the pre-pandemic level.

The interview stage of the census has ended, but data collection from registers continues
