In September, the consumer price index was influenced the most by housing- and food-related price increases
According to Statistics Estonia, in September, the consumer price index increased by 0.3% compared with August, and by 23.7% compared with September 2021. Goods were 19.9% and services 31.0% more expensive than in September last year.
Viktoria Trasanov, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with September 2021, the consumer price index was affected the most by housing-related price changes, which contributed nearly 40% of the total rise. “Gas was 255.2%, solid fuels 118.3%, electricity that reached homes 105.5%, and heat energy 62.9% more expensive. The price changes of food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for a quarter and transport for a seventh of the total rise in the index. Petrol was 28.5% and diesel fuel 52.2% more expensive,” added Trasanov.
Among food products, the biggest increase compared with September 2021 occurred in the price of sugar (86.2%). Flour and cereals were 76%, spices 61.4%, other edible oils 60.6%, eggs 54.4%, and beef 53.5% more expensive.
Compared with August, the consumer price index was influenced the most by housing- and food-related price changes. The sales on clothing and footwear have ended and goods of the new season are now available in shops. Diesel fuel was 4.7% more expensive and petrol 1.5% cheaper.
