Food prices increased in November, fuel and electricity prices decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2024, the consumer price index decreased by 0.4% compared with October and increased by 3.7% compared with November 2023. Goods were 2.5% and services 5.6% more expensive than in November last year.
Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the fall in the consumer price index in November compared with October was mainly due to cheaper international flights and holiday trips, which had been priced higher in October due to the school holidays. “The index was also affected by rent and electricity being cheaper than in October. Compared with November last year, the index was driven up the most by price increases related to food products and phone services,” explained Veski.
Among food products, there has been a significant rise in the prices of non-alcoholic beverages (19.6%) and fruits (13%) as well as chocolate (21.8%) and coffee (16.6%), compared with November 2023. There was a decrease in the prices of sugar (26%), fresh vegetables (4.7%) and poultry (4.6%).
Petrol was 7.1% and diesel fuel 8.8% cheaper than in November 2023, due to falling global prices. Electricity was 4.6% cheaper as there was a decline in power market prices.
