According to Statistics Estonia, in February, the consumer price index remained at the same level as in January 2024 and increased by 4.2% compared with February 2023. Goods were 2.7% and services 6.6% more expensive than in February last year.

Viktoria Trasanov, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with February 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to housing and food and non-alcoholic beverages, which each contributed nearly a fifth of the total rise. “Cocoa was 20.8%, canned milk 20.5%, confectionery 19.5% and rice 18.2% more expensive than in February of the previous year. However, other edible oils were 16%, fresh vegetables 13.9%, sugar 10.7% and low-fat milk 10.2% cheaper,” added Trasanov.

Petrol was 3.8% and diesel fuel 4.8% cheaper.

Compared with January, the consumer price index was influenced the most by the falling prices of electricity, heat energy and solid fuels, on the one hand, and by more expensive February holiday trips and alcohol and tobacco, as well as by transport-related price changes, on the other hand.
