According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €866 million. Compared with June 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover fell by 5%.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the drop in the volume of retail trade turnover in June was mainly due to stores selling manufactured goods, as their turnover volume decreased by 9% year on year.

The analyst noted that in the category of manufactured goods, the biggest decline at 17% was registered in the turnover volume of stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear. “A larger-than-average fall of 16% was also recorded in stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials. In stores selling second-hand goods and in non-store retail sale (stalls, markets, and direct sale), the volume of turnover was down by 11%, and by 10% in other non-specialised stores selling predominantly manufactured goods (e.g. department stores),” Pihlak reported. She added that a 2% rise was seen in the turnover volume of other specialised stores selling predominantly computers and their accessories, books, sports equipment, games, toys, etc.

Compared with June 2023, the volume of turnover decreased by 4% in grocery stores but increased by 2% in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel.

In comparison with May, the volume of retail trade turnover fell by 3% in June. According to the seasonally and working-day adjusted data, turnover volume was down by 1% from the previous month.

In the first half of 2024, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises decreased by 4% compared with the same period of the previous year.
