According to Statistics Estonia, in May, the consumer price index increased by 0.1% compared with April and by 2.9% compared with May 2023. Goods were 2.6% and services 3.3% more expensive than in May last year.

Viktoria Trasanov, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with May 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by housing-related price changes. “Other bigger contributors were price changes related to transport and food and non-alcoholic beverages. Road passenger transport was 17.2% more expensive, while the price of petrol rose by 4.2% and diesel fuel by 4.6%,” Trasanov pointed out.
Among food products, the biggest increases compared with May last year were registered in the prices of olive oil (52.9%), confectionery (20%) and cocoa (17.4%). On the other hand, decreases were seen in the prices of fresh vegetables (-17.1%) and sugar (-16.1%).
