Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. In August, the industrial producer price index was affected the most by the rising price of electricity
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, rose by 1.3% in August compared with July 2022 and by 28.3% compared with August 2021.

Population census: the average family size in Estonia has gone up
According to the results of the register-based population and housing census of 2021, there are 341,995 families in Estonia, of which almost half, or 49%, are two-member families. Compared with the previous census, there are fewer families, but the number of people living in them has risen. 154,625 families (or 45%) are raising minor children and 16% of the population lives alone.

The number of job vacancies remains above 13,000
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2022, there were 13,334 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 26% more than in the same quarter of 2021. Approximately 5,000 people left their jobs at the initiative of the employer.

Industrial production down in July
According to Statistics Estonia, in July, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased 6.4% at constant prices compared with July 2021. Output rose in one of the three sectors – up 5.2% in electricity production – but fell 6.4% in manufacturing and 17.5% in mining.

Inflation reduced GDP growth to just 0.6% in the second quarter
