Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.

In August, exports decreased for the third month

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2019, compared to August 2018, the exports of goods decreased by 3% and imports by 7%. The trade decrease was mainly due to declined exports and imports of mineral products (shale oil, motor spirit, fuel additives and electricity).

In August, 488,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, 9% more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in August 2018. The number of nights spent by tourists increased by 7%. 286,000 of the visitors of accommodation establishments were foreign tourists and 202,000 were domestic tourists.

Pilot survey of the Estonian Labour Force Survey is about to begin

On 7 October, Statistics Estonia will launch a pilot Labour Force Survey, which will be conducted in parallel to the regular Labour Force Survey. The aim of the pilot survey is to test the renewed questionnaire and methodology, which will be implemented in 2021. This is the first time that the respondents can use an online questionnaire and the sample of the survey will include persons aged 75‒89.
